The Portland Water Bureau Friday morning issued a boil water alert for the entire city as well as some suburban customers. The alert affects 670,000 water customers.

Stay with us for live updates on the water situation as the city continues to test the water for E. coli.

3:45 p.m.: Michael Russell is keeping a running list of Portland area restaurants, bars, food carts and cafes that have closed because of the boil water alert. Check out his restaurants closures list and let him know if he’s missing any. Spoiler alert: All Stumptown Coffee locations are closed.

3:30 p.m.: Portlanders are clearing out entire rows of bottled water at area grocery stores, and we have photos to prove it. Check out this collection of Instagram photos from Portland area grocery stores and restaurants, and post your photos in the comment thread below.

3:00 p.m.: You don’t need water to cook. We have five recipes for you tonight.

2:35 p.m.: Andrew Theen reports there will be a lot of drinking water flushed over the next few days. Remember all the flushing that happened in April when the Portland teen urinated in the Mt. Tabor reservoir? Well, it’s happening again.

2:20 p.m.: Is it safe to do laundry? The Portland Water Bureau says yes. You can also shower and take a bath, as long as you don’t swallow the water. Use caution when bathing infants and young children.

2 p.m.: For those of you worried about your cats and dogs, Lynne Terry reports Portland’s boil water alert does not extend to pets. Oregon’s public health veterinarian, Emilio DeBess, said that dog and cat owners do not have to take any extra precautions for their animals. Pets have a high tolerance for bacteria that turn up in fecal matter.
